Paws 'n Claws Pet Rescue, Inc. Policies

We do take in primarily cats at this time. In the future, we hope to also take in a few dogs that need rescuing. We receive several calls weekly about neglected or abandoned cats and we do our best to take in all that we can. We are limited by space at times and we have a waiting list when that happens. We also ask that people who bring cats into our facility try to make a $25 donation. The success of this rescue will depend on the ability to survive in difficult financial times. This donation goes directly toward the medical needs and daily care of each animal.

We base our adoptions on an application that can be downloaded from this website and completed and then resubmitted by mailing it to us, FAXing it to 603-444-0132 or dropping it off at Littleton Veterinary Clinic, Inc. Primarily, we look at previous pet ownership and how responsible an adopter will be. We become very attached to these cats that we care for every day and we want to be assured that they will be in good homes.

Although we cannot force people to keep their cats indoor only, we strongly urge that everyone consider it. Cats that roam outdoors can be chased and eaten by wild animals or dogs, can be hit by vehicles, can become infested with parasites or can become injured more readily. Some of the cats we get at the shelter may be declawed already or may have a history of being indoor only. In these cases, we will only adopt these cats to indoor homes. Also, very young kittens should not be allowed outside without some form of supervision or not at all for the first several months of their lives. On average, an indoor cat lives 14 to 16 years and an outdoor cat lives 5 to 6 years.

In the case of an approved application, we will contact you to set up a visit. Because our facility operates out of an active business, we have to work around that schedule. It also allows us to choose the best times when we know we can spend some time showing you all the cats. We urge people not to "drop in" to see the cats. Unfortunately, our schedule may not allow that to happen.

Once you choose a cat and take it home, we are here for you. If you decide that the cat is not a "fit" for your home or animals, you have the option of returning it or exchanging it. You will have the first week to do this. After that first week, we will take the cat back if the need arises, but no refund will be returned. If you adopt a kitten, you will have a deadline on your adoption contract to return for a free spay/neuter. This must be adhered to or the kitten can be removed from your home. Once you have adopted a cat, any other expenses incurred afterward will become your responsibility as the new owner.

The adoption fee for a kitten and adult cat is $125 and the adoption fee for a senior cat (over the age of 8) is $70. These fees upon adoption will include vaccines (not all vaccines in young kittens), Feline Leukemia/FIV/Feline Heartworm testing, fecal analysis, spaying or neutering and parasite control. Our goal is to provide a less fortunate animal with a good medical start and a great home environment.
